New/Next Film Fest presents 'Conbody vs. Everybody' screening with Debra Granik

Baltimore Public Media's New/Next Film Fest is thrilled to welcome Academy Award nominee Debra Granik (Winter’s Bone, Leave No Trace) to Baltimore for a special screening of episodes of her new documentary series Conbody vs Everybody July 15 at The Charles Theatre's Auditorium 2.
Following the screening, Debra Granik will be joined by WYPR’s Erica Kane for a conversation about this non-fiction series’ unique insight into building community and breaking cycles of recidivism.
ABOUT CONBODY VS EVERYBODY
CONBODY VS EVERYBODY is the story of a tight-knit group of formerly incarcerated New Yorkers who forge a pact for their mutual survival as they re-enter society after prison. They are led by a maverick hustler, Coss Marte, also recently released. Together they create a zone of tolerance for people reentering, in the form of an underground gym. Located in their rapidly gentrifying neighborhood, the gym catalyzes unprecedented exchanges and encounters between the surrounding community and those who have been locked up. Spanning 2014 to 2021, this is an immersive nonfiction narrative about hustling, finding allies, and re-inventing life amidst the steep obstacles that ex-cons face as they fight for acceptance from a society that has moved on without them.
RUNTIME: 128 minutes
ABOUT DEBRA GRANIK
DEBRA GRANIK is the director and co-writer of Winter’s Bone, which won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance 2010. The film was nominated for 4 Oscars, including Best Picture. Her first film, Down To The Bone, won Granik the Best Director prize at the 2004 Sundance. In 2015, she completed Stray Dog, a feature documentary, which was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award. Her film Leave No Trace premiered at Sundance 2018 and was included in the Director’s Fortnight at Cannes 2018.

Erica Kane is a media professional with over 15 years of experience working in radio and television across U.S. markets including New York, Los Angeles and Washington D.C. Erica has also worked behind the scenes on television shows which have aired on FOX, CBS, ABC, VH1, MTV and more. Erica currently serves as an on-air host of All Things Considered on Baltimore’s NPR news station WYPR-FM and at Audacy Washington DC’s flagship station, WPGC 95.5 FM.
