New Mother-Daughter Book Club at Bookshop West Portal!

Join us once a month on Sundays at 10am for a mother-daughter book club featuring books for readers ages 9-12!
About this Event

Bookshop West Portal is delighted to announce that we are starting The Wild Girls Mother-Daughter Book Club this fall!

Children's book editor and bookseller Summer Laurie will lead the club and bring the joy and community of a Mother-Daughter Book Club right here to Bookshop West Portal. Once a month, the book club will meet at the store on a Sunday at 10am, for one hour. The books selected for this book club will be from the middle-grade section of our store, meaning they are typically aimed at readers who are 9-12 years old (but we believe people of all ages should enjoy the charm of middle-grade books!).

Regardless of the name, our young readers are welcome to bring any "mother" they would like to spend time with, in a safe, happy, book-filled space.

The first book Summer has selected is The Wild Girls by Pat Murphy. Set in the Bay Area, it is a beautifully written, imaginative, and heartwarming story that has also inspired the name of the book club: The Wild Girls Mother-Daughter Book Club! You can RSVP for FREE for the first meeting of The Wild Girls on September 20th at 10am at the store.

A bit about Summer...

Born, raised, and rooted in the Bay Area, Summer has spent her professional career frolicking in children’s books--first as a kids' book editor and ten years later as a bookseller. In 2008, she held her first monthly Mother-Daughter book club meeting and has kept it going ever since. She wholeheartedly believes that all humans should be reading middle-grade novels for the honesty, the heart, the humor, the hijinks, the healthy dose of wonder, and especially for the hopefulness.
