We are very happy to welcome Christos Kanellos Malamas for another unique concert in Berlin!
This time we are going to play our own original compositions, following the long heritage of makam (or modes, or trópi), filtered through our own musical experiences and backgrounds.
Christos is a multi-faced musician, musicologist, instrument-maker and master of the byzantine and the ottoman musical traditions as well as the european medieval and sephardic music, based in Granada, Spain.
His compositions reflect his deep knowledge and understanding, with special attention to the singing voice, which he masters to an amazing extent, being a student of Nikos Andrikos. He has already released two albums, and a third one is to be released soon by Kalan Müzik.
Aspa is a humble student of many different musical traditions, in eternal love with her instrument, polítiki lyra (istanbul-lyra or klasik kemence), which she plays and teaches in Berlin. Her compositions vary, with influences from ottoman classical music, but also rebetiko, music from the islands, even pentatonic music, as well as by Ross Daly.
We are also very happy to have two very dear musicians with us, who are going to enrich our music with their beautiful sounds:

and the incredible Dogukan Karakus on perkussion.
