BASICS OF WOODTURNING --- A class in the fundamentals of woodturning in my woodturning shop near Nevada City CA.  The class is focused toward beginners or those with some experience, but who may need a “restart” or to recover some of the fundamentals that have been missed.   No prior experience is required.   All equipment, tools, gear, wood are provided. It’s a forgiving and gentle process.  

You can enroll for either two or three days, whichever best suits your needs or schedule. The first two days carry through basics to the completion of a basic turned wooden bowl at the end of day two. The optional day three is tuned and optimized for each individual, exploring additional options that will aid in retention of what has been learned.

Each student has their own dedicated lathe and needed tools for the full course.   The shop is well equipped with five lathes, a sharpening stations, band saws, drill press, dust system and more hand tools than one can count.   The Lathes -- each a little different, each fully capable of all we will do in the class, each with a different flavor.  The variety of lathes provides students the opportunity to experience differences and realize the variation in options. 

We create an enjoyable atmosphere tailored to each individual’s needs and goals.   With a maximum of three to four students, the class readily can be customized so that each proceeds at his or her own pace to get the most out of the experience.   We will be relaxed, safe, comfortable and have a good experience.  We will have fun.  

Everyone will take away several woodturning projects they have completed, including at least one open wooden bowl by the end.   That’s the plan.

We start at 9:00am each day and wrap up between 4:00 and 4:30pm

Coffee and beverages provided, as well as lunch each day. Lunches are home cooked and wholesome. *Students with food allergies or special requirements are encouraged to bring their own lunch.  (fridge and microwave available)

COVID-19 SPECIAL PROCEDURES.

All attendees are required to be fully vaccinated prior to the class by one of the approved vaccines. Even better would be to have received a booster shot if available before the class.

We will maintain significant air flow through the shop throughout the class to keep the air as fresh as possible. You are welcome to wear a mask, and a daily mask will be provided should you need one.
