Complex Treatment Planning: Surgical Considerations for the General Dentist

Complex cases often require the general dentist to consider surgical needs early in the treatment-planning process. Dr. Matthew Torres will discuss surgical considerations that can influence restorative planning, interdisciplinary coordination, and treatment sequencing.

Drawing from his experience in oral and maxillofacial surgery, Dr. Torres will share a practical surgical perspective designed to help general dentists approach complex cases with greater confidence and recognize when collaboration with a surgical specialist may benefit treatment outcomes.

Matthew R. Torres, MD, DDS, is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon and Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He earned his medical degree from UT Southwestern Medical School and his dental degree from the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine before completing his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency in Houston.

His practice encompasses dentoalveolar surgery, dental implants and full-arch treatment, bone grafting, reconstructive jaw surgery, and surgical pathology. He also maintains staff privileges within the Methodist Hospital System.
