About this Event
New Adventures #1
New makers, new ideas, new adventures!
On 2 & 3 June 2023, Ainhoa Hernández Escudero and Kaide Gonzalez will share the research of their four week New Adventures residency in theatre De Vlugt in Amsterdam New-West. Ainhoa Hernández Escudero and Kaide Gonzalez offer us a look at their practices: from reflecting on representations of women and queer characters in traditional western narratives, to peaking in 60 seconds when entering a battle in street and club styles.
New Adventures is a program for emerging choreographers who want to deepen their creative practice. The artists work on their project with artistic guidance and productional support from ICK Dans Amsterdam. The results are shown in a “double bill” where artists and audience get a chance to meet and dialogue.

(Don't) look me in the eyes
Ainhoa Hernández Escudero (1989) is a Spanish dance & theater maker based in Amsterdam. She graduated from the DAS Theatre Master program in 2022 and received the AFK 3 Package Deal Grant 2022/2023. In her work she explores how dominant discourses can be countered on the intersection of pop, post-internet aesthetics and technology. She’s currently working on a trilogy focusing on science fiction, dreams, magic, and queerness and their potential to produce alternative realities.
In (don’t) look me in the eyes, Ainhoa Hernández Escudero reflects on the Greek myth of Medusa and the Gorgon sisters, through dance, pop culture, goddesses, technology and music.

Kaide Gonzalez
60 seconds
Kaide Gonzalez (1988) is a Swedish/Chilean dancer specialized in House dance. He started his training at Åsa Folkhögskola in Sweden and graduated from the Academy of Theatre and Dance in Amsterdam in 2022. He frequently participates in international battles alongside to teaching and performing. Free from labels, but mindful of the House dance culture he’s part of, he is intrigued by the notion of an ‘in-between’. He’s developing his own practice which he calls ‘Leviathan Flow’: an improvisational tool that puts emphasis on allowing the YOU to come through in your improvisation.
Kaide Gonzalez’s solo 60 seconds deconstructs what it means to enter a battle and the journey behind those 60 seconds in the spotlight.
