About our course

Our Beginners 3 week Throwing Course is a perfect introduction to wheel thrown pottery. We'll guide you step by step to making your first thrown pots.

Join us for a skill-packed and relaxed 3-week workshop designed to take you through the essential techniques.

No experience is necessary. You don't need to be artistic, this is all about creating.

All materials and firing is included in the price.

What You’ll Learn:

Clay preparation & centering

Opening up & getting height

Knuckling up

Ptional extras:

Slip decoration techniques (additional fee)

Reactive Glaze decoration (additional fee)

Course Goal:

By the end of the course you’ll have learned the basics of throwing on a potters wheel.

The course includes the firing of 4 pots. Additional pots can be fired at a cost of £5 each.

What’s Included:

Unlimited clay

Expert tuition & live demonstrations

Glazing and firing of 4 mugs

2 hours of weekly studio time (please allow ~20 minutes for clean-up afterwards)

What's the difference between a slip finish and reactive glaze finish?

Slip decoration involves the application of coloured clay to your pots. We will then transparent glaze them.

Reactive glaze involves adding a ready made coloured glaze to your pots.

If you are not sure if you would like to add slip or glaze decoration you don't need to decide at this stage. You can purchase additional elements at the studio.
