About this Event
Never Forgotten: Violence against women and systemic failures to protect, investigate and convict: Public Meeting at the Wolfson Theatre, London School of Economics, on 25th March 2026 6.45pm to 9pm
Three years after the Casey Review into institutional racism and misogyny in the Metropolitan Police, why has nothing changed? Is it time to radically reform policing, law and social protection to tackle the epidemic in gender-based violence in the UK?
On 25 March 2026, and the at the London School of Economics will jointly host a public meeting to highlight the continuing and systemic failures to address violence against women in the UK.
With a panel including families, practitioners and academics, we will focus on the brutal deaths of Naomi Hunte (2022) and Fiona Holm (2023) - both from African-Caribbean backgrounds, killed by the same abusive partner. Their preventable deaths are stark reminders of the depth of the ongoing crisis in preventing gender-based violence in the UK. These cases alongside broader systemic failings, are indicative of a wider culture of misogyny, racial discrimination, denial and inaction that continues to erode trust in the wider criminal justice system, serving only to ensure that the state continues to fail to comply with its obligations to investigate, prosecute and punish cases of violence against women in accordance with human rights law and norms.
We will hear from the families of the women who will speak about their harrowing search for answers to their understandable question: why were their loved ones failed so spectacularly by the police in these cases?
We will seek to address the challenges encountered in ensuring effective implementation of the law and consider what policy recommendations are needed to achieve real accountability and transparency from the police and the wider criminal justice system.
Join us in what will be a powerful and moving event.
