Neva is a personal friend of mine, (Bonnie) that I've known for many years. This is her current condition in her words. Last year my back started to hurt 2 days after I buried my brother , thought it was a heart attack instead I had to have an emergency gallbladder surgery , after that my back started hurting was at 26 degree curve on my lower back . I have Herrington rods in the top half of my spine already . I went to see my orthopedics Duke sent me to physical therapy & after that injections & then told me nothing he could do for me . My primary doctors referred me to 2 surgeons in Greensboro. One gave me an injection in my S1 joint then other referred me to a surgeon in Charlotte. It’s April 2025 now , so 3 doctors would not touch me due to the fact that now my spine is at 40 degrees compression nerves , having DJD of the spine . The surgeon in Charlotte said he could “fix "me & even take out my rods I had when I was 13 . So surgery was scheduled July 29 but my back was getting worse couldn’t stand , sit , cook clean , nothing without hurting . So my surgery was moved up to July 9th. When he opened me up he had to untwist my spine & line it back straight , I am fused in all my L’s & 2 out of 5 of my S’s. He did not remove my Herrington rods due to they are grown into my spine . Surgeon said he hadn’t seen a case so complex in a very long time . I am post op 9 weeks , I spent a week in the hospital , then went to home health weeks 2-7 , now I am currently outpatient physical therapy. My left leg goes numb , I have lower back pain that runs down back of my leg & also pain that runs down the front . I have to walk with a walker to get around . I can not bend lift or twist & the rest of my life I can not lift anything more than 30 lbs , nor will I be able to bend . I am currently out of work due to my surgery , I wake up due to pain & I can not drive nor can I ride in a car very long due to pain. I had a spinal lumbar fusion complex 3+ . It takes 12-18 months or longer to get back to normal . I have upcoming tests to see why I have numbness & tingling in my left leg in Sept . I will continue to be unemployed and in pain until my doctors figure out a better plan.
