We will be offering its first Neurodiversity Celebration Day and “Silent Night” ZooLights on Dec. 27, 2022. All day and evening, neurodiverse individuals who are sensitive to high noise levels, visuals, and smells will have special accommodations and educational activities, including:
- Reduced or stopped strobing, flashing and blinking light effects
- Elimination of music
- Free sensory backpacks and kits available for checkout for individuals with low vision or autism spectrum disorder
- Sensory-friendly activities and educational demonstrations throughout the zoo
- Information tables from local organizations who support neurodiverse individuals
- Guided information on what to expect and what to avoid in areas where stimuli cannot be reduced
Neurodiversity Day is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is included with the special Wild Weekdays $5 general admission online, or $7 at the door.
Silent Night ZooLights will be a separate ticketed event from 5:30-9 p.m., for $14.95 (13+), $11.95 (3-12) and free for children 2 years old and younger. Members receive $3 off each ticket.
