“Surveying the Unseen: the Science of Psychological Measurement” by Mark Bond
For science to happen, you need to be able to measure things properly. We’ll discuss how to measure psychological states and traits and how well known personality scales and standardized tests measure up.
Dr. Mark A. Bond is a former professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at UT Dell Medical. They worked as a mental measurement expert there and at a K-12 standardized testing company.

“You Can’t Taste Anything” by Scot Maitland
Most people believe taste happens on the tongue. It doesn’t. About 80% of what we call flavor is actually scent, processed retronasally on the exhale, and your brain assembles the whole experience in real time. We’ll explore the neuroscience of flavor perception, why your garnish has a job to do, and you’ll verify the mechanism yourself in about ten seconds using whatever’s already in your glass.
Scot is the founder of a beverage methodology company specializing in the systematic development of non-alcoholic drinks. He applies neurogastronomy as a daily working tool, not a theoretical framework.
*
“How (or How Not) to Hike Mt. Whitney” by Heather Curiel and Jeff Hopkins
Two not-so-outdoorsy people set a goal to climb the highest mountain in the continental U.S. Learn about the preparation, planning, and harrowing journey. DISCLAIMER: Maybe don’t do what we did.
Jeff and Heather are usband and wife, creative and (formerly) not outdoorsy people who get carried away with big dreams.
