Neon Dreams celebrates Gena Rowlands' iconic role in Gloria with a one-night-only screening of John Cassavetes’ raw and atmospheric neo-noir masterpiece. Part chase thriller, part gangster picture, and part buddy comedy, Cassavetes’ genre stew is a character-driven thrill ride from start to finish anchored by Rowlands’ electrifying (and Oscar-nominated) performance.
Gloria pairs Rowlands with a streetwise kid (John Adames), whom she is reluctantly saddled with protecting from a gaggle of murderous gangsters through the mean streets of late-'70s NYC. Packed with razor-sharp dialogue, shocking bursts of violence, grimy locales, and surprising moments of warmth and levity, this unusually conventional turn for Cassavetes remains a stone-cold classic that has been replicated many times over but never equaled.
