NEIFF presents - An introduction to screenwriting with Gavin Williams

Gavin Williams is a writer/director based in Newcastle. His début feature as a screenwriter, AWAIT FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS, was a Critic’s Pick in the New York Times. Formerly available on Netflix it now streams on Shudder. His short, SLEEPWORKING, which he wrote and directed, won eight awards and played at sixty festivals. His feature, THE POISON FOREST, was optioned by Amazon Studios. In 2017 Gavin established Feature Creep Films with Mark Lediard. Their short, THE MIME, was commissioned by Fox Digital Studios/ Disney, screened on both FX and FXX Channels in the U.S, and is now streaming on Hulu. Their co-directed films and music promos have played at Frightfest, Screamfest, and the Sitges Fantastic Film Festival, among others. In 2022 Gavin was the Edit producer on comedy-horror anthology feature, LORE (starring Richard Brake, Rufus Hound), for Hartlepool-based Sea & Sky Pictures.

Gavin will discuss his approach to feature film screenwriting (with a focus on horror and sci-fi) and offer a range of practical tips and advice using movie clips, plus examples from his own film making career
