ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
During Courtney Arnold’s senior year of college, she connected with her late cousin: Earnestine Epps Locke. Earnestine was a milliner and owned Les Grande Chapeaux (formally Chic Chapeau Fine Hats & Accessories) in Richmond, VA. She gifted Courtney one of her old mannequins, whom Courtney affectionately named “Lola”. Earnestine passed in 2015—roughly a month before Courtney was set to move to DC for graduate school. In 2021—a decade after receiving Lola—Courtney felt she was finally ready to open a shop of her own.
At its core, Lola Earnestine is Courtney’s way of carrying Earnestine’s legacy. Each earring design is a one-of-a-kind + needle felted love letter to the important women, girls, and femmes in Courtney’s life. Most importantly, Lola Earnestine is a vehicle that channels her grief and returns her to the pockets of whimsy, curiosity, and joy of her childhood.
