Growing up at home, Nectar was surrounded by a rich musical soundtrack, ranging from Lauryn Hill and Erykah Badu to Stevie Wonder and Donny Hathaway – artists who taught her that soul isn’t just a genre, but an emotion you feel deep down. That same emotional honesty resonates in her own music today.
In 2022, Nectar released her debut EP Nothing to Lose via Communion Records, a first introduction to her understated yet powerful sound. With tracks like ‘Good Vibrations’ and ‘Other Side’, she effortlessly balances neo-soul, folk, jazz and gospel. Her warm voice, poetic lyrics and organic productions quickly earned her a loyal fanbase and millions of streams.
In 2024, Head Above Water followed, a more confident release on which Nectar delves even deeper into jazz and soul. Songs such as ‘Tell a lil lie’, ‘Grow’ and ‘How It’s Gotta Be’ showcase an artist who is increasingly shaping her own sound: vulnerable, honest and yet grand in feeling. Her music spread organically, from intimate solo performances with guitar to sold-out headline shows in London and support tours for Leon Bridges and NAO.
