PAPE MOUSSA SONKO
For most Sabar enthousiasts Pape Moussa needs no introduction. You might have seen him dancing in countless Mbalax music videos, or perhaps on stage alongside some of the biggest Senegalese artists, Youssou Ndour in particular. Possibly you have even had the opportunity to take one of his amazing workshops in Senegal or somewhere around the world during his travels.
Pape Moussa is the director of the renowned "Ballet National du Senegal" as well as his own company "Waato Siita". He is an exceptional dancer with an an electrifying stage presence. In addition, he is an imaginative and creative choreographer and a pedagogical and highly inspiring teacher. He comes from a family filled with gifted artists and has a vast knowledge of Sabar and its history.

THE WORKSHOP
The workshop will be divided in two parts. The classes will take place in the legendary Daniel Sorano Theater in Dakar.
From Friday January 3rd to Sunday January 5th Pape Moussa will be teaching an advanced level Masterclass for students who already know the basic steps and the most common rhythms. You will be learning how to accommodate your dance style when dancing to different rhythms, and how to refine and elevate your basic technique - among other things. You will also get a chance to work on your solo dancing and get valuable feedback from Pape Moussa. There will be limited spots available!
From Monday the 5th to Thursday the 9th there will be open level workshops. It is recommended to have at least some previous experience in Sabar. and the possibility to book private classes with Pape Moussa or other teachers. We'll be going through a vast array of Sabar rhythms, including some leumbeul with a female teacher.
The classes will be taught by Pape Moussa Sonko and accompanied by drummers. There will be a couple of selected guest teachers that will be teaching a portion of the classes on some days.
There is also a possibility to book a private class with Pape Moussa or another dancer and drummers. You can choose if you'd like to work for example on some choreography or solo dancing. You can even choose which rhythms you'd like to focus on. This is a unique opportunity to get one-on-one feedback from the masters!
Please note that the classes will be held mainly in French.

Ce stage de danse dans la capitale sénégalaise est une rare occasion d'apprendre le sabar pure avec un grand maestro.
PAPE MOUSSA SONKO
Élu le meilleur danseur de son pays en 2011, Pape Moussa est un artiste et chorégraphe reconnu dans tout le Sénégal et même autour du monde parmi les enthousiastes du sabar. Il s’est produit sur scène avec les plus grands tel que Viviane Ndour, Aida Samb mais il est surtout le danseur officiel du roi du mbalax, Youssou Ndour.
Aujourd'hui, il est le directeur du Ballet National du Sénégal. Il est également directeur et chorégraphe de son propre groupe Waato Siita.
En tant que professeur Pape Moussa est extrêmement divertissant et inspirant. Il est apprécié par les élèves du monde entier.
LE STAGE
Le stage sera divisé en deux parties. Les cours auront lieu dans le légendaire théâtre Daniel Sorano à Dakar.
Du vendredi 3 au samedi 5 janvier, Pape Moussa donnera une masterclass de niveau avancé pour les étudiants qui connaissent déjà les pas de base et les rythmes les plus courants. Vous apprendrez à adapter votre style de danse à différents rythmes, et à affiner et élever votre technique de base. Vous aurez également l'occasion de travailler votre danse individuelle et d'obtenir des commentaires précieux de Pape Moussa.
Le nombre de places est limité !
Du lundi 5 au jeudi 9, il y aura des cours de tous niveaux et même une possibilité de réserver un cours privé avec Pape Moussa ou d'autres professeurs. Les cours seront donnés par Pape Moussa et quelques professeurs invités, y compris un atelier de leumbeul dirigé par des incroyables danseuses.
