In this brew of three short stories from the heart of Bijnor, we listen to the storyteller reminisce about his little village. We find multitudes of layers beneath their relatively simple lives that we celebrate, laugh at, rue and smile over.‘Hawa’ is the story of a newly-wed bride, who becomes the talk of the town for bizarre reasons. Desperate to deflate this endless gossip, she has found a way but only time will tell how effective it is.
The whole town is chicken in front of the infamous ‘Fakko Ka Murga’, whose deadly peck is what everybody is running from. Little does Fakko know that this winged friend, the only companion of her solitary life, will bring her much distress.
In ‘Totaa Udd, Maina Udd’, the youngest of three daughters is sent to her sister’s marital home after her wedding day. She sees, hears and feels things she is too innocent to understand. Her reactions are naive, but her instincts are in the right place.
A look beyond their stories shows there is more—unexpressed desires, unspoken voices that never had the courage to jump out, muffled by tolerance, conditioning and lack of opportunity. They have things to say, they just need you to read between the lines.
This is a boiling pot of sweet and savoury stories you will be left wanting more, reminding you of home.
