When: Wednesdays, 10am – 3.15pm. Starts 16 September 2026 (32-weeks, Birmingham term-time only)
The NCFE‑accredited Level 2 Certificate in Garden Design equips learners with the essential creative and practical skills to design private, public, and show gardens.
During this Level 2 Garden design course, you will learn:
• Design techniques, materials, tools and equipment
• How to develop design and craft ideas
• Producing commercial design and craft briefs
• How to produce work in response to briefs
Throughout the course you will create a portfolio of work to be assessed by your tutors. This work will also be quality assured by external moderators,.
There will be a number of assignments to complete and pass in order to achieve the Level 2 Certificate in Garden Design.
This course helps learners develop an understanding of garden design and the garden design. In particular, this course will be a good introduction if you’re looking to pursue a career in garden design or design and execute show gardens at a semi-professional level.
Applications for this course will be reviewed by Winterbourne House and Garden’s Horticultural education team, who may invite you for an in-person conversation to ensure the course you have applied for meets your experience and aligns with what you hope to achieve from studying with us.
This qualification can help you to progress into a career in garden design and horticulture.
Some learners may go on to complete further study at Level 3.
Many learners go on to work in the garden design industry, either for larger companies or on a freelance basis. You will develop skills that can also be applied in other professional horticultural settings, such as working in private or public gardens.
