Nazir Ebo - A Cellar Dog Exclusives Concert
About this Event
Cellar Dog Exclusives will feature one artist monthly. There will be no pool playing, no tv's on...this night is all about the music.
We will kick things off with Nazir Ebo and his band (Chris Lewis , Micah Thomas and Russell Hall).
A little about Nazir:
A self-taught prodigy and classically-trained bassist from Philadelphia, PA, drummer and composer Nazir Ebo has been electrifying audiences since he was a child. Incubated within a talented musical family, Ebo’s talent developed within the rich cultural hotbed of Philadelphia, upheld by the city’s longstanding legacy of jazz greats, many of whom instructed and mentored Ebo’s musical development.
This foundation paved the way for Ebo’s impressive entry into the scene, touring with Soweto Kinch, Kenneth Whalum and Logan Richardson immediately out of high school. This mixture undoubtedly prepared him for his prestigious appointment with the Joshua Redman Quartet.
Ebo presents and plays with a quiet confidence and precision that is arresting, reflecting his intuitive nature and expansive technical foundation.
This is what perhaps makes his debut album BEYOND particularly exciting for those that have been following his career. A noticeable departure from the traditional jazz Ebo has been known to play, BEYOND is a kaleidoscopic soundscape developed from years of musical exploration with collaborators Flanafi, Tone Whitfield (both appearing on Bilal’s Adjust Brightness) along with Sanché Ramírez, and Tim Watson.
Ebo’s debut is a refreshing entry into experimentation. “I developed this work during the pandemic as a means to explore my own emotions and identity” Ebo says. “I wanted to create a space with no time and no restrictions, with melodies that flowed into each other, much like life.”
Ebo’s compositions are unexpected and delightful to explore. Like the intense, melodic hallucinations of his first single “Rocket”, Ebo builds a beautiful soundscape with his counterparts that travels between mind-bending grooves meditative ballads. “We’ve been developing this (new) sound for three years” Ebo says, “and this album puts a stamp on it.”
Without a doubt, the result is a genre-defying, bold declaration of Ebo’s artistic identity, offering something for every listener.
