Join us for the NAWIC Portland April Chapter Meeting! This in-person event will be held at Thompson Metal Fab.

Operating since 1937, TMF began by manufacturing milk cans for dairy farms and equipment for food processing. During WWII, TMF expanded production to include boilers, hatches, doors, and other steel work to support the Liberty Ships. (Our current facility is in the old Liberty Shipyard.) Through the years Thompson continued to change and grow as a steel fabricator, eventually specializing in large custom fabrication work. We regularly have government work (hydro, bridges, etc.) as well as private sector projects (e-houses, prototypes, etc.).

We operate in Vancouver, Washington at the Columbia Business Center in Building 40, Bays 4-11. Our facility features over 200,000 square feet of indoor fabrication space and 12+ acres of outdoor assembly and fit-up space with access to utilities. Our location allows for an array of shipping options – close access to interstates, rail access outside every bay, and a roll-on / roll-off barge slip on the Columbia River allowing direct loading onto ocean barges.

We are an AISC certified fabricator with a Major Bridge endorsement. We have a long history of experience with complex fabrication in multiple materials including Carbon Steel, Weathering Steel, Stainless Steel, Aluminum, AR Plate, and other alloys. We have a dedicated processing bay and can process plate up to 4” thick, wide flange beams, HSS, and other shapes. We can also do some break forming and plate rolling. Our Coatings Department (AISC – P1 Endorsed) is considered one of the finest on the West Coast and includes a large sandblasting room adjacent to our dedicated paint bay.
