Protect Your People: Simple Steps to Better Security & Privacy
Do you know what hackers have on you? A vast amount of our personal data is public. AI makes it increasingly simple for marketers to sell to you and for hackers and scammers to use that data to create convincing attacks. In this practical, no‑nonsense session, Kara Viatori will introduce immediate, actionable steps to help protect your business and, most importantly, the people in it.
You’ll leave with:
- Plain‑language steps to spot and prevent scams and phishing
- A short checklist to find and fix your biggest vulnerabilities
- Practical rules to require of vendors, contractors, and fractional leaders before they join you
No jargon, no big-budget overhauls—just steady, affordable changes that protect leaders, customers, and everyday operations. Suitable for owners, managers, team members, and anyone who wants to avoid getting scammed.

About Kara Viatori
Kara Viatori brings 20 years of practical IT and security experience to her role as Director of Information Technology at Metropolitan Organization Countering Sexual Assault (MOCSA), a mid‑size KC‑area nonprofit. She began as a network administrator for a nationwide company, managing firewalls, VPNs, user identities, and advanced infrastructure—virtualized systems, colocation facilities, and enterprise security platforms—which gives Kara a deep, operational understanding of how real systems are defended.
Today, Kara concentrates on information security and cultivating a security culture that’s accessible to non‑technical staff. An ISC2 CC holder currently pursuing the CISSP certification, Kara focuses on translating technical concepts into practical, jargon‑free steps that teams can implement immediately. Her approach emphasizes steady, affordable improvements rather than one‑time overhauls, so organizations build resilience without unnecessary complexity.
Kara is particularly passionate about supporting local small and medium businesses run by women, LGBTQ+ folks, and minority entrepreneurs—helping them adopt realistic security practices that protect staff, customers and operations. Known for clear explanations and hands‑on guidance, Kara leads cross‑functional initiatives, incident preparedness, and staff training designed to be useful from day one. She also volunteers with youth tech mentorship programs and speaks locally on making cybersecurity approachable and accessible.
