About this Event

Misinformation has become one of the most significant challenges facing food safety communication today. From social media myths to misleading health claims, inaccurate information can undermine trust, distort risk perception, and ultimately impact public health.

The Food Safety Consultative Council (FSCC) of the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) invites you to an in-person open event exploring the critical issue of navigating misinformation in food safety and how it can be effectively addressed in a rapidly evolving communication landscape.

The FSCC serves as a platform for discussing food safety issues and offers advice to the FSAI Board on relevant matters. Comprising members from various sectors related to food safety, it provides an opportunity for consumers, industry representatives, and stakeholders to contribute to the FSAI's strategic goals and agenda.

This 2026 open meeting will focus on navigating misinformation in food safety and will examine:

  • Communicating in the modern world
  • How misinformation impacts food safety and consumer trust
  • What misinformation looks like in the context of modern communication
  • The psychology behind why misinformation spreads and gains traction
  • Practical approaches to countering misinformation and communicating risk effectively

Through expert presentations and a thought-provoking panel discussion, this event will create space for open dialogue and the exchange of perspectives on the challenges of communicating food safety in today’s complex information environment.
