Learn to navigate family resistance while choosing healing, growth, and breaking intergenerational cycles.
About this Event

Talk of breaking intergenerational cycles and healing from intergenerational traumas has become prominent in the Indo-Caribbean and general Caribbean community. It’s more common for first- and second-generation Canadians and Americans to undergo therapy to seek ways to heal from trauma and learn to practice healthy change. However, this change can often be met with resistance and backlash from family members, leaving those seeking positive change to feel defeated, frustrated, and hopeless. “I Just Want Us to Do Better: Navigating Family Resistance While Choosing Growth and Healing” is a workshop focused on providing insight on what resistance signifies, as well as support to those who are facing it. The goal of this workshop is to offer hope and a guiding light to those practicing healing and change.

“I Just Want Us to Do Better: Navigating Family Resistance While Choosing Growth and Healing” will be presented by Megan Mootoo. Megan is a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, practicing for over four years with a broad client population. Megan also has a background in spiritual care and loves journeying with others as they navigate questions about faith, life, death, meaning and purpose. As an Indo-Guyanese Canadian and former teacher, she is passionate about educating and providing support to those in her cultural community and beyond.

PLEASE NOTE: This workshop discusses topics that are personal, sensitive and possibly triggering. Creating a space that is safe and honest is top priority. As you prepare for this workshop, be open to possibly feeling vulnerable, and to hold the sacred vulnerabilities of others, with respect, nonjudgement and confidentiality.  Of course, the choice to disclose any personal information is fully yours.
