Navigating Elderly Care with Lauren Sword

Most families don’t explore elderly care until they’re already in a crisis. By then, they’re overwhelmed, unsure of their options, and trying to make major decisions under an enormous amount of stress.

This free workshop will be led by Lauren Sword, an elderly care consultant with Always Best Care of Greater Lexington. What makes Lauren’s approach so valuable is that she doesn’t only care about the person who needs support, she also cares about the people providing it.

Her role isn’t simply to place your loved one somewhere. It’s to help your family understand every option, answer the questions you may not even know to ask, and connect you with the right people and resources so everyone feels supported.

Asking for help is not giving up. Sometimes the best way to protect someone’s independence is to stop viewing every form of help as a loss of independence. 

This workshop will help you understand the differences between each level of care, recognize what may be best for your loved one, and learn about the resources available to support your entire family through this stage of life.

Lauren will discuss:

• Home care, independent living, assisted living, memory care, and nursing homes
• How to recognize when your loved one may need additional support
• How planning early can protect their independence and preserve more options
• Resources for family caregivers so they don’t have to carry everything alone
• Trusted services available throughout the transition, including moving companies, realtors, in-home care, physical and occupational therapy, strength training, and restorative support for caregivers

This 90-minute workshop is also an opportunity to connect with people who understand what you’re going through, whether you’re preparing to become a caregiver, are new to caregiving, or have been doing it for years.

The first 30 minutes will be a meet-and-greet with food from our favorite local catering company, Gourmet Grazin’, giving everyone time to connect with others navigating similar situation.
