“Navigating AI Tools in the Writing Classroom”
Abstract:
In an educational landscape infiltrated with generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), English language teachers now have to revisit their approaches to teaching writing and assessing learner skills. Given this, how can writing teachers make ethical and informed decisions about using or limiting AI in their classes? In this seminar-workshop, we discuss GenAI vis a vis critical writing, from examining AI and its ethical implications to testing possible tools and strategies in writing instruction. Ultimately, the workshop reinforces ways to center the human voice given the presence of AI in the English language classroom.
