Nature journalling workshop, suitable for all creative ability levels. Includes a nature walk and fully tutored watercolour workshop.
About this Event

This is the last workshop in our nature journalling series for 2025.

The theme of this workshop is on nature’s food sources which are available during the winter months. Initially, we will undertake a nature walk within Queenswood Arboretum to search for interesting objects such as pine cones, acorns, seedheads and nuts. These will provide a great source of creative inspiration plus photo opportunities.

Following this, there will be a practical workshop where you will be guided in how to draw seedheads using mixed media. This will involve tuition and practice in using pen, coloured pencils and coloured pastels.

Who should attend this workshop

  • Anyone who has a love of nature and is interesting in learning more about it
  • You are creative and want to learn new skills or improve your existing ones
  • You would like to find an activity which encourages you to be more mindful and active

About the tutor

The workshop will be delivered by Backbury House Retreats Lead Tutor Sharon Brookes. Sharon is a fully qualified art teacher and mindfulness coach and has taught in a range of educational establishments with a career spanning nearly 30 years. She has recently relocated to Herefordshire and currently delivers award-wining art courses from her studio base at Backbury House Retreats.

Frequently asked questions

Q1. I am a complete beginner in art. Will this course be suitable for me?

Absolutely yes! The workshop will be delivered will lots of helpful guidance, demonstrations and advice in order for you to build your skills and knowledge in manageable steps. You will also be offered individual support, as and when you require.

Q2. How far will we be walking?

We will be completing a guided walk along a trail consisting of approximately 1.5 miles in total. The trail includes some steep sections of path that may be muddy in wet weather. However, you will be free to walk a shorter alternative easy 1-mile route, if preferred. In addition, the alternative trail offers hard surfaced paths for easy access.

Q3. Do I need to bring any equipment with me?

For your convenience, the workshop includes all of the art materials that you will require in order to complete the tasks. However, you may wish to bring a camera/camera phone to capture interesting images. You may also like to bring a set of binoculars for closer viewing, if you have them.

Q4. Will you be offering more workshops like this?

Yes! We are currently planning similar workshops which will be offered throughout the year and allow you to explore and respond to the country park and arboretum during all four seasons.
