Nature Writing Series: Encountering Nature Indoors — Immersive Workshop
About this Event
Enoch Pratt Free Library is thrilled to partner with to offer a Nature Writing Series this fall. Each of these events will provide participants with the opportunity to encounter and interact with nature in a unique way.
Pratt invites you to join us for a unique writing workshop that aims to emulate an inspiring jaunt through Cylburn’s beautiful natural spaces, all from within the comfort of Central Library. Participants will have the opportunity to engage all their senses and explore how nature inspires the creative process. This immersive experience will provide participants with an opportunity to experience nature in an approachable and accessible manner.
Pratt is very excited to welcome poet Jalynn Harris as our workshop facilitator. Jalynn will encourage participants to use their senses and immediate environment to connect with the natural world. By recognizing the ways that nature imitates art, participants will map out their inner world to connect their experiences with nature. Drawing on analysis, reflection, collective conversation, and writing exercises, participants will draft a poem or other creative piece steeped in imagery.
About the Facilitator:
Jalynn Harris is a writer, educator, and book designer from Baltimore. They are the founder of SoftSavagePress, an indie publisher promoting the works of Black artists. Their literary work can be found in Poets.org, Poetry Magazine, The Best American Poetry 2022, Feminist Studies, The Hopkins Review, Gulf Coast, and elsewhere.
