About Your Instructor: Kelsey Starnes
Kelsey is a free spirit. From her own personal experiences with health challenges, she carries a compassionate and unique lens of the world. At age 10, she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis which turned her life upside down. She went from being a cheery, bright, and bubbly kid to an angry, reserved, and fearful teenager.
Her diagnosis defined her identity for many years, even after she went into remission at age 17. Now, it is her mission to transform that experience into her deepest passion to bring people back home to themselves and their connection to the world around them.
Kelsey graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology in May of 2025 with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and master’s degree in sustainability, analytics, and management. The most exciting project she embarked on was a small-scale composting system she created from scratch for her college campus. She worked with students, faculty, Greek life, chefs, and external professionals to orchestrate a system to compost food scraps, sawdust, woodchips, and other student waste.
Kelsey also has experience teaching in both athletic and academic settings. She has taught and mentored young girls on the volleyball court in a concise and caring manner as well as complex geotechnical engineering material to college students in a way they could easily understand.
She joined Moonlit Moth Treasures because of her shared passion for a community-centered business that creates meaningful impact for the whole and the individual. Her next steps are focused on growing with Moonlit Moth Treasures and continuing to learn, teach, and grow.
Hosted by Moonlit Moth Treasures:
Jillian Sturgill, the founder and owner of Moonlit Moth Treasures, is a mom, creative and vintage lover. After leaving her corporate career and beginning contingent work at Henry Ford Hospital, she decided to fully pursue Moonlit Moth Treasures, where she started hosting pop-ups featuring curated vintage finds, unique treasures, home décor, clothing, jewelry, and eclectic pieces saved from landfill.
What started in January 2026 as a small passion project quickly turned into something much bigger. Jillian has always cared for helping others and being involved in community-centered volunteering. From her dedication to the Kiwanis organization and her ability to help small businesses in any way she can, she strives to build a more connected and supportive future for all.
She’s expanded into hosting hands-on art workshops throughout the Grosse Pointe and St. Clair Shores areas, creating spaces where people can slow down, connect, and make something meaningful together. Jillian is incredibly grateful for how much the business has grown in such a short time, and even more excited to see where this next year will take her and Kelsey.
Moonlit Moth Treasures has become more than just a small business, it’s become a reflection of the life they both want to build: expressive, connected, sustainable, and full of heart.
