About this Event
Explore the Greenway Trail along Salado Creek — then learn to identify what you found. No experience needed — just curiosity and a phone.
The Salado Creek Greenway south of is one of those stretches where the trail does the work for you — shaded canopy, creek-side habitat, and enough variety to keep you looking around every few steps.
On Saturday, April 25, from 11:30 AM–1:30 PM, join Robert Doyal and Tracey Burke, Texas Master Naturalists and iNaturalist Ambassadors, for a nature walk where we'll use the free iNaturalist app to spot, photograph, and document whatever we find along the way.
No experience needed. If you can point a phone camera at a bug, you're qualified.
On the walk back, we'll stop for an ID discussion — a chance to look at what we found, talk through how to identify it, and learn what makes a strong observation. It's the part of the walk where curiosity turns into knowledge.
The Big Picture
This walk is part of the City Nature Challenge, a worldwide event where people in hundreds of cities spend four days discovering and documenting the wildlife around them. Everything you photograph becomes part of a global biodiversity dataset — and helps scientists better understand what lives right here across our 12-county San Antonio Metro Area. That beetle clinging to a piece of bark? That's data. The lichen creeping across the exposed rock? That's a contribution. You're not just going for a walk — you're mapping what lives here.
