Our favorite retired ecology professor, Jonathan, will be guiding a walk along the New Bern riverfront downtown. We’ll meet at 9:30 am by the boat ramp at Union Point Park.
For those who are interested, we’ll talk about the effects of Hurricane Florence seven years ago (still quite evident), the mixing of fresh and salt waters in the Neuse and Trent Rivers, effects of sea-level rise, and waterfront vegetation along the rivers. We’ll also talk a bit of history and the fate of the Trent Court housing project, still mostly closed and abandoned seven years after Florence.
The walk is about 3 miles out and back, with plenty of places to stop and sit or talk.
