Let's go out and discover something new about our natural world!
About this Event

Join us for an immersive session dedicated to "story-catching"—the art of gathering and preserving the personal narratives that strengthen our community. This beginner-friendly workshop is designed for everyone, especially those who may feel intimidated by the idea of writing or drawing.

We will meet at the Central Park Library's park side entrance (near the cafe) before the start of the event at 11 a.m.

Our time together will unfold as follows:

  • Discover: We will begin by exploring the concept of story-catching and how sharing our experiences acts as a regenerative force for connection.
  • Reflect: Together, we’ll enjoy a shared reading of select nature poems, using them as a springboard to transition from literary inspiration to meaningful personal reflection.
  • Practice: Using the intuitive I Notice, I Wonder, It Reminds Me Of (INIWIRO) framework, you will be guided through a simple process to capture your own stories.
  • Connect: You will have the opportunity to join small, supportive "story-catching circles" to discuss your experiences and listen to the narratives of others.
  • Explore: To conclude, our librarians will share curated recommendations for regenerative nature poetry collections available right here in the library, ensuring you leave with plenty of inspiration for your next read.

No prior experience with writing or art is necessary. Sketching supplies will be provided. You are welcome to bring your own if you prefer. Please bring a small chair or stool if you prefer to draw while seated, as this is not always available at the park.

Clara is a certified nature journaling educator, and she is a longtime resident of Santa Clara. As a working mom, she enjoys nature sketching on-the-go and creating drawings in an imperfect way.
Clara helps curious people to slow down and appreciate the small moments through nature-based approaches, using mediums such as sketching, journaling and storytelling. Her preferred medium is ink and watercolor. Sometimes she also dabbles in other crafts, such as crochet, mosaics, poetry-writing and stamp card-making. She also enjoys hiking and traveling with her family.
Currently, her favorite nature books is An Entangled Life by Merlin Sheldrake and The Blue Machine: How the Ocean Works by Helen Czerski.
