A workshop in cultivating mindfulness through being in nature and taking photos of what fills us with joy.
About this Event

From the pandemic to social media, the state of unrest and divide in the world and the amplification of our general, day-to-day stressors such as job or relationship anxiety - the list is endless. Which is why there's no better time than now to learn and develop new tools to help ourselves stay mentally healthy as we navigate through it all.

Join award-winning nature photographer, Shane Turgeon, on a guided wander through the Edmonton river valley. This event is open to people of all skill levels with all calibers of cameras. The principle of the workshop remains the same: learn to see and appreciate things in new ways that can help you take comfort in being in the moment. We will touch on basic photography concepts such as composition and light but the primary focus of this workshop is to get you to "see" the world around you differently and focus on being in the moment.

Recommended equipment:

  • Your camera
  • Memory card & battery
  • Monopod/travel tripod
  • Comfortable shoes
  • Weather-appropriate clothing

Shane Turgeon is an award-winning nature photographer focused on landscapes, the night sky, storms, and wildlife. His work has been featured by Canadian Geographic, the Natural Landscape Photography Awards, PhotoLife magazine, Black Rapid, the CBC and he is currently short-listed for the prestigious Astronomy Photographer of the Year award from the Royal Museums Greenwich in London.

While pursuing nature and landscape photos for his own personal pleasure are his primary focus in photography, he also has a keen passion for sharing both his art and the mental health benefits of nature photography and passing on his experience and knowledge to other photographers. In 2022 Shane created the Lightchasers Nature Photography Conference in Pincher Creek, Alberta; an annual event which brings photographers together to learn from some of the top names in Canadian photography with an emphasis on education, exploration and community building.
