Nature Journalling Walk
Schedule
Sat Jun 24 2023 at 10:00 am to 12:00 pm
Location
Saughton Public Park | Edinburgh, SC
About this Event
Nature is all around us, even in the city: from the moss growing along a wall and dandelions reaching from cracks in the pavement, to old trees with whom we share our streets with. All we have to do is pay attention.
We will walk together and find quiet spaces to sit and do a number of guided sensory activities aimed to pay attention to the natural scenes we'll be surrounded by. Ecologist, Juan Pablo Lobo-Guerrero will guide the walk and provide prompts to get us started with nature journaling, which as we'll discover can take many forms.
This will be an informal walk and there is no pressure to draw or write, this will also be a time to relax, meet people, and be outside for a few hours.
What to bring?
A notebook
Pen/pencil/colours (or any other material to draw and write)
Eraser, sharpener
Ultimately the walks are for us to sharpen our powers of attention. Borrowing from a quote by John Muir, "The act of paying attention is the act of love".
Please wear appropriate clothing to be outdoors. It might be summer, but it's still Edinburgh so be prepared for any weather!
When?
Saturday 24th June, 10am - 12pm
Meet up point:
Saughton Public Park (in West Edinburgh)
We will walk to where the water of Leith walk meets the Union canal or a bit before that and either make our way back through the same path, or go up to the canal and walk back to the city centre.
The event is a collaboration by the Communities' Reduce Reuse & Recycle project, run by ELREC (The project aims to raise awareness of climate change and encourage diverse communities to reduce waste, increase reusing and repairing and to shift to a more sustainable consumption), and the ecologist Juan Pablo Lobo-Guerrero.
