About this Event

This is a space is for our Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communtity to practice mindfulness together in nature. We will gather to practice breathing, take in the wonders of our surroundings, and write to communally reflect to awaken the mind and heart. If you are not apart of the BIPOC community, please register for another one of our conservatory minfulness programs.

This program is free to attend. Please consider donating while at the conservatory, donations help to offset the cost of any program supplies, such as blank journals for you to use and take home, markers, and other supplies.

If you're not able to attend, please let us know.

NOTE: this is a bilingual space, English and Spanish. Spanish interpretation and translation is available upon request.

Claudia is a daughter of immigrants; a daughter of the diaspora; a wounded healer; an intellectual, spiritual, and queer Chingon@. Professionally, she is a bilingual trauma therapist and Founder of Girasol Counseling, PLLC based in Puyallup Territory (Hilltop Tacoma, WA). Her work aims for the de-stigmatization and decolonization of mental health; and advocates for collective healing practices that are grounded in liberation, culture, and spirituality. Gloria Joy Kazuko Muhammad (preferred name: Joy) is a literary arts teaching artist, writer, filmmaker, editor, and community organizer based in Puyallup Territory (Tacoma, WA). As a writer, Joy is inspired by spirituality, everyday life, nature, music, and cinematography. She is a graduate of Washington State Teaching Artist Training Lab and facilitates writing workshops rooted in healing and personal development. Additionally, she facilitates professional development workshops with teachers on utilizing social-emotional learning, is a consultant for curriculum development for youth and adults arts programming, and is always down to be a speaker on collective care! A lifelong student, Joy enjoys learning from and with others on environmental justice, design justice, and co-creating a world in which we’re all free.
