Join us Saturday, June 12 at 1pm for a hike through the beautiful Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site. Dr. Julie Zimmermann, a professor of archaeology at SIUE, will be leading the Nature Culture Hike, a 5.4-mile trek that passes through some of the more remote areas of the site. The Nature/Culture Guidebook, which can be purchased at the Gift Shop for a mere $1.50, explains Indian culture, archaeology, and the environment. Expect largely level terrain and a climb up the steps of Monks Mound. The trail will consist of concrete, gravel, and grass.Learn about the culture of the ancient Cahokians and their predecessors, the Mississippians, while you experience the beauty of the city they left behind. And wear good shoes!
