Natural State, Natural Dyes

Step back in time to explore the intersection of nature, chemistry, and early American craftsmanship.

Led by master spinner Eddon Boyd, participants will dive into the science of heritage dyeing:

• Pigment Foraging: Identify native Arkansas plants used for color.
• Mordanting Process: Understand the chemistry used to fix dyes to fibers.
• Vat Preparation: Master temperature control to extract pure pigments.
• Fiber Interaction: Explore how wool and cotton absorb elements uniquely.
• Hands-on Dyeing: Dye wool yarn yellow (onion skins), brown (walnut shells), and blue (indigo).

While the workshop is free and open to the public, space is limited and advance registration is required. Attendees are asked to dress in casual, comfortable clothing that they don't mind getting messy or permanently stained. Recommended Ages 16+.
