About this Event
Join artist Stephanie Fradette, aka Le Petit Moose, at the Greyhope Bay Centre as you uncover the art of frame loom weaving, using the sweeping views of Aberdeen's coastline and found treasures as your inspiration.
About the workshop:
Join us for a fun and relaxing morning with like-minded individuals and learn the addictive medium that is frame loom weaving. It has made a major comeback in the last few years and creating a wall hanging is an ideal piece to start your weaving journey.
Working with foraged dried seaweed, dried grasses, and other natural elements such as natural yarns, discarded ropes and driftwood, participants will be guided to create a woven wall hanging made from found treasures as a keepsake.
All materials provided, however if you have any beach finds or anything else you wish to incorporate - please do bring them along!
About the artist:
Stephanie Fradette is the fibre artist behind the brand “Le Petit Moose”, a nod to her French-Canadian roots. The Aberdeenshire-based artist blends bold colours into her woven, knotted and tufted wall hangings, showcasing rich textures, contemporary design and craftsmanship.
With a focus on creating distinctive textured works, drawing on structural and layered horizons often inspired by the ever-changing landscapes from her world travels. Bold hues and gradient colour is at the forefront of her work, creating a modern perspective on mid-century style. Her latest collection, "Remnants", was created using discarded fibres collected from years of teaching weaving workshops - breathing new life from the castoffs of one creative moment into another.
Stephanie has been teaching weaving and knotting workshops across the North-East of Scotland since 2015. What started off as a one-off frame loom weaving class for a friend, progressed swiftly into teaching and delivering multiple hands-on fibre-based craft classes a month. Highlights have included teaching at Craft Scotland Summer Show, Dundee Contemporary Arts, The Barn Arts Centre in Banchory, the Fife Arms Hotel and Central Scotland School of Craft. She has recently published her first book “Playful Peg Loom Weaving”.
