We are looking for some keen volunteers to help us with a bit of tree clearing and some native planting. This will involve pruning branches and felling some small trees with saws and loppers, plus lots of planting. The terrain can be quite challenging, especially when working on some of the steeper banks, so make sure you're confident on your feet. It's a lovely spot, off the beaten track, right next to the Mōtū Manawa-Pollen Island Marine Reserve. The work we're doing will restore the native coastal forest, providing a crucial buffer zone to protect the marine reserve.
We will provide all volunteers with hand tools and gloves, plus juice and biscuits for morning tea.
Meeting at the accessway to the reserve, between 26 and 32 Jomac Place, Avondale.
You must bring sturdy, closed-in shoes or boots (work boots, gumboots and tramping shoes are all ideal); clothing suitable for outdoor work, including a raincoat if it's raining; and a drink bottle and snacks.
All volunteers need to be over the age of 15.
