Learn about the importance of native plants to Florida's First People and to us today in an educational program with a free plant giveaway!
About this Event

Florida's first people used plants for food, shelter, and medicine. The native plants they used can be just as helpful for us today. Join us to learn how!

9:00 AM - Welcome, and tour of our newly planted Indigenous Peoples' Garden. Sacred Lands Preservation and Education stewards a 1000 year old archeological site that was once home to the Tocobaga people.

10 AM - 12 PM - Guest speakers and presentations on: How archeologists know what plants were used by Indigenous people; urban container gardening to grow our own food; soil enrichment past and present.

12 PM - 1 PM - free plant giveaway. Apply the principles taught by our guest presenters and grow your own native plant at home!

Program is free and open to all. Advance registration is required for free plant giveaway; plants are in limited supply and registration does not guarantee availability.

Funding for this program was provided through a grant from Florida Humanities with funds from The Mosaic Company. Any views, findings, conclusions or recommendations  expressed in this program do not  necessarily represent those of Florida Humanities or The Mosaic Company.
