Native Plant Water Gardening in Containers with Andrew Chaves

Join us in-person at the Theodore Payne Foundation as we explore the world of small-scale water gardening, focusing on how to create and maintain a beautiful and sustainable water garden using native California plants. Water gardening is a unique and rewarding way to add natural beauty and serenity to any outdoor space, and it is an excellent way to incorporate both native plants and water sources for wildlife. With the use of containers, we can create water gardens in small spaces, patios, and even on balconies.

Perfect for anyone who is interested in learning about water gardening and discovering new ways to incorporate native California plants into their outdoor spaces. This class includes an illustrated lecture and a planting demonstration.

Andreas Chaves is a passionate horticulturist, dedicated educator and a certified UC California Naturalist. At a young age he learned ‘botanical Latin’ from his grandfather, a nursery professional and horticulturist. Through the years he has honed his skills in growing and nurturing plants of all kinds. As education supervisor at the Redondo Beach SEA Lab, he gained invaluable experience in plant propagation and native plant restoration.

Andrew is committed to inspiring and educating about plants and the importance of native plant gardening. His workshops are engaging and hands-on, with plenty of opportunities for students to get their hands dirty and learn by doing. He believes that native plant horticulture is not just about growing plants but also about cultivating a deep connection with nature and developing a sense of stewardship towards our environment.
