About this Event
Join us on a 1-2 mile ambassador-led native-plant walk at Harmon Canyon Preserve. Expect to take 15 minutes at the beginning to meet each other and learn some basic plant biology before we start getting out there! As we walk through the preserve together, we will stop often to look at some cool species around us, so don't come expecting to break a sweat. Please bring water and sun protection. Optional: consider downloading Seek by iNaturalist beforehand (an app that can help you identify plants) to help you get a swing of identifying things.
We will be covering some basic plant biology, what to look for when it comes to identifying plants, and learn about some awesome species you'll see around Ventura County.
After this guided walk, you will be able to: Identify and name (at least) three local species, distinguish between native and non-native plant species found along the trail, and describe the unique characteristics and adaptations of three specific native plant species encountered during the hike.
If you have any questions before the walk or have anything in particular you'd like to learn about, email [email protected]
Please park in legal spots in the parking lot or on Kimball Road. This hike will be led by our wonderful ambassador Georgia who has a background in native plant biology. Join her to learn about plant cells, native plants, and protecting ecosystems. This hike is great for all ages, please bring sun protection and comfortable hiking shoes. Tickets are $5 for adults and everyone under 18 is free.
