Native Bee Workshop with Krystle Hickman

Join recent Poppy Hour guest Krystle Hickman in person at TPF for a special walk and talk on native bees, their relationships with native plants, and a BioBlitz in TPF's demonstration gardens. Krystle will also share tips on how to take great photos of bees with your camera or mobile device.

This class will be held outdoors in TPF demonstration gardens. We ask guests to prepare for walking on steep, uneven surfaces. Water bottles and sun protection are also strongly encouraged.

Krystle Hickman is a TEDx Speaker, Artist, Community Scientist and Photographer based in Los Angeles, California. Through artful photography, Krystle, strives to increase awareness of the decline in native bee species as well as highlight their biodiverse ecosystems. Her photography work has been featured in various online and print editorials.

Since 2019 Krystle has worked with gardens like the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Arlington Garden; regularly photographing and documenting their bee native habitats. Her aim is to keep accurate records of population changes. She is duplicating her research in the Mojave Desert, the Santa Monica Mountains and yards with native gardens. Throughout the process she consults with experts in different areas of Melittology (Scientific Study of Native Bees.)

• Eating and drinking are prohibited on the TPF grounds.

• Do not visit if you or someone from your household is feeling sick.
• Wash/Sanitize your hands before you visit.
• TPF staff cannot assist you putting items into your vehicle, so please bring an extra member of your household if you are purchasing large items.
