Day 2: Satuday, September 20 9 -4pm

Join us for one or both days of professional development for Native artists looking to start or grow a career as an artist. Meet and learn from RYAN! Feddersen, Dan Friday, Andrea Wilbur-Sigo, and many others about securing funding, starting and running a business, the world of public art, getting into galleries, and vending at markets.

Lunch provided both days, as well as beading workshops from Cynthia Masterman of Blue Dot Beadwork.

Info: This session is geared toward artists who are just starting out or considering becoming a full-time artist. What are the pros and cons of being full-time artists vs. a part-time artist? Presentations will also focus on getting the word out: websites, professional Resume/CV, artist statements, and presenting your work.

Info: Did you know there was funding available to help support Native artists? There are several grant opportunities if you know where to find them. This session focuses on where to look for funding, how and what is needed to apply, and writing a good grant application.

Info: There are many ways for you to sell your art and one of the best is during arts markets, fairs and powwows. People love to meet and purchase art from the artists and art markets and fairs are a great way for artists to get their work into the public arena. This session focuses on how to apply and what’s needed to be a successful art vendor.

Info: Sustainable living with your art. For many artists, this is the most difficult part of being a working artist. This session introduces four panelists who have all turned their art into a successful business.

Info: (Part 1: Public Art Manager’s Perspective) How do you go about getting a public art project? It can be a complex journey, starting with where to look. How to apply? What is RFP? RFQ? RFQQ!! How do I answer all these questions? If you have ever looked into applying for a public art project and thought it was too difficult and choose not to apply, you are not alone. We understand it can be daunting, but the rewards for landing a public art project are many. This two-part session will present both sides of a public art project, Part 1 from the public art manager’s perspective, and the Part 2 from the artist’s perspective. The panel will try to demystify the process and break down the how-to of applying for and landing public art projects.

Panelists will share pointers for artists to help them get noticed in the art world.
