Join Instructor Al Striplen (Amah Mutsun Ohlone/Aztec) for a 1-hour workshop that includes, a demonstration, a brief history of the Native American style flute (and its spread among Native American Tribes and popular culture), and an overview of the structure, design, and how to learn to play.This workshop is the perfect introduction if you are learning (or interested in learning) to play the flute at your own pace. A list of resources (tutorials, performances, etc.) will be provided at the end of each workshop.
As a bonus, workshop participants may purchase their own handcrafted flute from the nonprofit museum store at a discounted price.

This workshop is provided free to the public by our nonprofit partner, the California Indian Heritage Center Foundation (CIHCF).
Donations are welcome though and help support future programming at the park.
Space is limited to 15 people per workshop (recommended for ages 15 and older). Please only register if you plan to attend.

More about Al Striplen:
Al is a docent at the State Indian Museum and a self-taught Native flute player. As a university counselor and Native Studies professor, he devoted his career to advocating for diverse communities and Native American families.
In addition, Al is an accomplished artist, musician, author, and illustrator who has been invited to speak about the healing properties of the flute and its use in integrative medicine.
