November is National Native American Heritage Month. Join us for the first lecture of our inaugural Native American Heritage Month Lecture Series - ‘Forgotten Trunk in the Attic’, presented by speaker Galen Gritts. About the talk: Missouri, like other states in the center of the U.S., has no extant tribes. Therefore, the knowledge of either the history of Native Americans or the experience of contemporary ones is even further removed from people’s consciousness. Using startling facts as stepping-stones to fascinating and forgotten stories, this presentation starts to remedy this phenomenon.
About the speaker: Galen Gritts is a registered member of the Cherokee Nation. He is a native of St. Louis and holds a degree in history from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. For the past six years, he has been a speaker for the Missouri Humanities Council. He is now an elder. As one of his goals when young was to live to be old, he is thrilled to be here.
Nov. 6, 6:30-7:30pm in the Saint Louis Carousel event space. $5/person. Space is limited. Pre-registration is recommended, but not required.
