Vision Maker Media and The Ross Media Arts Center are proud to present a series of free screenings featuring short Native American films and tv programs from the VMM public broadcasting archives, spanning nearly 50 years of programming. Tickets available at the Ross Box Office.
On Monday, June 10 join us for IN THE WHITE MAN'S IMAGE (1991) followed by a discussion with director Christine Lesiak and journalist Kevin Abourezk.
In 1875, Captain Richard Pratt escorted 72 Indian warriors suspected of murdering white settlers to Fort Marion in Florida, removed their shackles, hired teachers, and made them into what Harriet Beecher Stowe called “docile and eager students.” In the White Man’s Image follows Capt. Pratt’s founding of the Carlisle School in Pennsylvania, and his philosophy of “K*ll the Indian and save the man” which became the basis of the Indian schools across America. (60 min)
