Vision Maker Media and The Ross Media Arts Center are proud to present a series of free screenings featuring short Native American films and tv programs from the VMM public broadcasting archives, spanning nearly 50 years of programming. Tickets available at the Ross Box Office. On Monday, June 10 join us for HAROLD OF ORANGE and ON AND OFF THE RES WITH CHARLIE HILL.
HAROLD OF ORANGE (1984) This comedy explores the interaction of two cultural groups indigenous to Minnesota– American Indians and philanthropic foundations. Poet Gerald Vizenor’s screenplay draws on trickster myths common to many Indian tribes to create a contemporary satire which dispels many Hollywood stereotypes. The story involves trickster Harold (Charlie Hill) and his scheme to obtain corporate funding for a chain of coffeehouses featuring reservation-grown “pinch bean” coffee. (33 min)
ON AND OFF THE RES WITH CHARLIE HILL (1999) Comedian Charlie Hill talks about his life and career, with performance clips and commentary from Will Rogers, Steve Allen, Dick Gregory, Floyd Westerman, and other guests. (57 min)
