National Wheat Day: 2-day Workshop

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) in partnership with the Academy of Science, Research and Technology (ASRT) are organizing a workshop under the title of "National Wheat Day". The workshop will be held over two days, on February 13th and February 14th, at the St-Regis Al-Massa Hotel in the New Administrative Capital.

This event is held in response to an official assignment directed from the presidential office to ASRT, for its pioneering role in wheat cultivation, to arrange for a collaborative workshop whereby national and international experts can come together to discuss the full wheat value chain in Egypt and provide a scope for way forward.

The workshop will be split into 4 successive sessions:

A- Wheat production: a discussion on farm activities, wheat genetics and new technologies that can enhance wheat varieties.

B- Trade dynamics: key import countries would be invited to this session

C- Consumption: wheat consumption patterns in Egypt and the subsidy policy landscape.

D- Policy recommendations and way forward: donors would be invited to review some of the proposed research gaps and interventions that may require funding.

The CGIAR has launched the National Policies and Strategies (NPS) for Food, Land, and Water Systems Transformation. NPS has been co-created with national and international partners with the main objectives of building policy coherence, responding to crises, and integrating policy tools at national and subnational levels in six countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
