Title of Program: "Let's Gyotaku - the Art of Japanese Fish Printing"
Program description:
Long before the use of cameras, Japanese fishermen documented a memorable catch by applying ink to their fish and pressing the fish to rice paper. The fish was then rinsed in the sea water to remove the ink so it could be eaten. The resulting print is called gyotaku, a term derived from the Japanese words for fish (gyo) and print (taku).
Julie Massey will demonstrate the art of gyotaku using real fish. (P.S. We will not eat the fish. )
