National Park Week is a time to explore amazing places and discover stories of history and culture in public lands. #FindYourPark at Fort Vancouver on Saturday, April 23! Join us for a FREE Black Powder demonstration. We'll be demonstrating musket and howitzer cannon firings. Muskets, rifles, and cannons were important trade items for the Hudson Bay Company at 19th century Fort Vancouver. Brought into the Pacific Northwest by Euro-American settlers, these small arms were essential for survival and later became an important import for the soldiers at the Vancouver Barracks. This demonstration is appropriate for all ages, but dogs are not recommended due to the loud noises.
